Trail #2: The Short River Loop

This is the easiest trail from BASHH (the Blue Ardenne Sustainability Home + Hub). From the front door, simply walk across, through the street sports fields of Espace Lentz. The trail starts after the bridge, on the right side of the river. The lower path right next to the river gets more sunlight and is less muddy on rainy days. The upper path is under mostly under tree cover, and perfect for very hot days when shade is more welcome.

At the second bridge, you could visit the Musée des Beaux-Arts et de la Céramique, or continue straight onto the Promenade des Récollets lined with linden trees planted in the early 1800s. This is a great route to get to the main shopping streets of Verviers or the train station. But, for this short loop, make a sharp right turn (near the steep stairs on the left that descend into town). This puts you on course to return back home to BASHH through after a short walk down Rue Renier. You can learn more about the history of this trail here. Keep an eye out for Grey Heron and Canadian Geese!

An easy, dog-friendly hike, 3km with an ascent of 47m. This trail is great for bird watching, as this stretch of river is frequented by many migratory bird species. Cat watching is also possible!
